FAQ

  • What does the kit contain?
The kit ships with an inner bracket, outer bracket, cork-rubber gasket, 4 bracket mounting screws, a mounting template, a 3-D printed cover, and 2 cover screws.
  • What is the Ele-Mount made from?
The Ele-Mount is machined from 6061 billet aluminum. Each Ele-Mount has been sand blasted with recycled glass beads and sealed with two coats of clear finish. The covers are 3D printed using black ABS.
  • What container types will the Ele-Mount fit?
The Ele-Mount is designed to mount onto any container with roughly the shape of a common 5-gallon bucket. The supplied screws allow for mounting the installation brackets on a wide variety of materials and thickness.
  • What kind of heating elements can I fit into the Ele-Mount?
The Ele-Mount is designed to accept the standard 1-11 1/2 NPS screw-in type water heater element found in nearly every water heater. These can be purchased directly from us or you can find them at any local hardware store. If you have different element mounting requirements please contact us.
  • Will it leak?
The curvature of the Ele-Mount brackets and the use of high quality cork-rubber gaskets ensures a leak-proof installation in containers approximating common 5-gallon buckets. Be sure to install the rubber O-ring that comes with most heating elements. Alternately, pipe thread compound or teflon tape may also be used.
  • Can I install any size heating element?
As long as the threading is compatible, any wattage element will work. However, take care to size the element to be smaller than the diameter of the container. The positioning of the template provides sufficient clearance from the bottom of the container for nearly any size heating element. A general rule of thumb for plastic containers would be to provide two inches of clearance between the end of the heating element and the inner edge. Clearances may be less for metal containers.
  • Does 110V or 220V matter? AC or DC?
As long as the threading is compatible, the electrical requirements of the element do not affect installation.
  • Once the unit is installed, can I change the heating element?"
Yes, the old element may be unscrewed and a new element installed at any time.
  • How do I wire the heating element after installation?
Most heating elements have screws for wire attachment. The wires may be twisted in place and the screws tightened or attaching crimp/solder connectors would be the prefered method. In some cases, blade type crimp connectors would be required. Alternately, a suitable cord may be purchased directly from us.
  • What size cord do I need for my heating element?
In most cases, a simple appliance cord or replacement tool cord will work. However, the size of the conductors must be matched to the size of the heating element. In general, the wattage of the element is on the package. Power (in Watts) = Voltage (in Volts) * Amperage (in Amps). Since the capacity of a wire is determined by the amperage it can conduct, simply divide The Watts by the Voltage to get the Amperage. Then it is a simple matter to use the internet to find the acceptable size wire that can conduct that current level. Confusing? That's OK. Just contact us.
  • What kind of element finish do I need?
The element must be matched to it's intended purpose. Most elements are designed to heat potable water. Other elements used for heating foods and related liquids are generally stainless steel. Elements used to heat metal-corrosive liquids are normally ceramic. If you have concerns, it is best to contact the manufacturer of the element to verify it's proper use. The elements available on our website are chrome plated copper, suitable for general water heating.
  • Why don't you just sell the entire kit?
With the exception of the buckets, which can be easily obtained locally, we provide everything required for general purpose heating. 1) The Ele-Mount kit. 2) A selection of general purpose heating elements. 3) A general purpose appliance cord. If you require specialized heating elements or power cords, you can always purchase them online or at your local hardware store.
  • Is it true that electricity and water don't mix?
YES! Please use our product safely and carefully. While we provide a protective cover, it is not water proof. Take care to not over fill the container, monitor your installation for leaks, and use a fused circuit. Plugging your unit into a GFCI rated outlet and having an appropriate circuit breaker are imperative.
  • I am not handy. Can I install this myself?
YES! We sell the components, as well as an optional installion kit and a heating element wrench. Just be sure to go slowly, watch our installion video, and make sure your hole locations are exact and it will go well.
